We always look forward to the Family Treat opening up in the summer. Today I had the # 1 which consisted of a double decker burger with all the fixings, a generous sized fry and a pop to wash it down. When I was done there was no way I was going to be able to eat another bite of food... ice cream, on the other hand, there is always room for. 1 small vanilla dipped in cherry to complete my already perfect meal.
This place is the Best !!!!!! Love the foot-long Coney dogs chili fries and chili burgers. Outstanding people!!!! Love the ice cream too
This place just makes me happy. It reminds me of the ice cream shop in my neighborhood that grew up with, plus they have tacos. Come on! Footlong hot dogs, thick creamy shakes, smooth ice cream, slushies and tacos! What more could you ask for? I say nothing, but they do have more. Family Treat is just that, a treat. There is nothing high-end here, just traditional yumminess. My only problem is that they are seasonal. They are mainly carry out, but they do have counter top dining. The facility is handicap accessible and clean. There is street parking available. Bring cash because when I was there, they had a sign that said cash only. The footlong chili dog with that soft bun I had was like a journey to the past. I will be back.
If you grew up in Mexicantown and Southwest Detroit this place means summer and deliciousness. If you're not from the hood - pues no sabes !! You don't get it. These are forever memories This weather is everything also. Footlong Coney on Thursday. Lol. Who feels me ?? Taystee freeze people !
SW DETROIT institution 60 YEARS OF FUN FOODS. Southwest Detroit's longest standing ice cream shop, I moved in as a kid four houses behind the place, kinda looked as the picture I posted. The place is much bigger now with a seating area inside. A must try for the foot-longs and chili cheese fries. I love the pineapple shakes and chocolate dipped cones. Taco Tuesday has been a hit for 30 plus years now. The Detroit Bookmobile would park on the corner and the place would be hoppin place to be. Today they just reopened for the season. Note this was and still is Tastee Freeze to thousands of Southwest Detroiter's. Also check out there new Facebook site.
I still remember coming here as a child with my parents. Family treat in Southwest Detroit is a staple in our community here. It reminds me of our Roots. I'd like to thank the owner of family treat for not taking this business away from the people of Southwest.
I made it past this great little restaurant a couple months back...and loved every bit of it! The food was delicious and the owner made sure that everything was perfect! Such a great seasonal restaurant! Make sure to come and check it out if you are in the area! The chili cheese burger is a must try! Oh!! And get a shake!!
